Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 (February 27, 2010) Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small community located on the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. The people who aren't familiar with this term frequently think that it's a separate island somewhere to the west of Montreal however, this part of West Island is home to all things from the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently referenced, however her brief time in the city did not last long. Brugel was raised on Courtice close to Oshawa located in Ontario. When she was a child she hoped to become the next big thing in her career, but a sudden growth spurt made it impossible. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. Once I outgrew male partners, that's when I gave up. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting, and in the instance of Brugel, it was an urging from her high school teacher in drama. Her teacher suggested she audition to play the character of Anne in their annual school production. She was able to audition and be cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her BA in Fine Arts at York University. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she's performed in more than 60 shows that have screened on large screens and smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was that of Rita (pictured below) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in Season 1 and only appeared occasionally.
